Working with a vitalist herbalist

What to expect working with a herbalist in the vitalist tradition

What to expect when working with a vitalist herbalist

It may be difficult to find a proper healer in this day in age to help you on your health journey. Many of us have felt gaslit and unseen when it comes to modern healthcare. Oftentimes we’re not listened to or treated as if our symptoms are not real. We’re seen as a number, rather than a real person. How can we possibly get any sort of proper care if our whole story isn’t heard? Modern healthcare (even naturopathy) falls into a model of symptom suppression and prescribing based on symptoms alone, rather than finding a root cause.

This can be a frustrating and very painful experience for people. Oftentimes this can lead to more harm through a wrong diagnosis and inappropriate pharmaceutical prescription.

We’ll see similar flaws in naturopathic fields - wrongly diagnosed with SIBO, candida, or parasites. Then given antibiotics or harsh herbal treatments in order to correct the “issue.” This can lead to further harm and dysbiosis. This can make it very difficult to know who to place your trust in, especially when you go to someone who claims to be working with “natural” medicine. One big takeaway that I've learned being an herbalist is that just because something is natural or plant medicine, does NOT mean it’s safe. Oftentimes, herbs are not even necessary when it comes to healing.

This is where vitalism comes into play. A vitalist herbalist is someone who’s trained in herbal medicine, understanding which herbs are appropriate for your specific constitution and energetic make up as well as knowing how they work to support the body rather than suppress symptoms.

Vitalism acknowledges the body’s innate ability to heal itself, and given the right environment, nourishment, and the aid of gentle herbal therapeutics, healing will take place.

The body needs proper nourishment, proper sleep, sunlight and hydration in order to heal. Without this, herbs are futile.

A trained herbalist with a vitalist perspective can help understand your full story, your constitution, and possible obstacles to cure in order to assist you on your healing journey. During an intake we will get your full story – how you nourish yourself, sleeping habits, lifestyle habits, and energetics (similarly to the vata, pitta, kapha model in Ayurveda). We’ll address nutritional deficiencies and food intolerances, which is one of the major issues when it comes to chronic conditions. Specific herbal combinations and flower essences (energetic, psychological and emotional medicine) will typically be utilized in this journey.

Many times intakes and follow ups are to understand the story and educate rather than to treat. After all, you are in control of your own healing, I am only a facilitator.

It all begins with an idea.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
